Abandoned Game vs Friends

7/2/2015

Continental drew their game against Friends CC due to bad light. Continental lost the toss and was asked to bowl first. Right away, Devansh and Rezwan put Friends under enormous pressure with some hostile bowling. Sumit and Krishna kept nipping away at the wickets while Tarun strangled them from the other end. Devansh's spell at the start was the big highlight, with him running through Friends CC's top order. He bowled with good pace and accuracy to get 3 wickets. Later on, he had an amazing catch,  catch-of-the-season so far, to get rid of Friends CC's best player - Anil. Rezwan's opening spell was hostile and was extremely unlucky to not get a wicket. Sumit bowled at a good pace and was threatening them throughout his spell, even with the old ball. Krishna delivered the knock out blows on-time, picking up their main batsmen. Tarun's bowling was the perfect catalyst for a good team performance as he selflessly kept one end tight and didn't experiment. Friends CC was bundled out for 116, perhaps 20 runs more than we should have allowed them given the hold of the bowling over their batsman. Then rain appeared.

Thereafter, Friends CC tried their best to avoid play and stall the game to salvage a point for turning up. Continental CC's temperament and behavior through all of this was excellent as they stayed away from controversy and altercations. It was an important lesson on handling off-the-field distractions (& on-the-field sledging) for a young team which should stand them in good stead going into more high pressure games in the next round. The experience has only made Continental even stronger.

Eventually when play began, Continental was set 73 runs to get off 18 overs as per DL method. Continental openers were set to finish the game nice and early by smacking the ball around the park, when poor over rate  conspired with bad light to prevent further play from happening.

Overall, Continental's performance is coming together nicely and expect the team to step up their performances and intensity as we head into the Super 8s after the long weekend. The schedule for the Super 8s is expected to be out early next week. Until then, have a great long weekend. GO CONTINENTAL!!!!!

Summary:
Friends CC - 116 all out in 33.4 overs (Anil - 31, Devansh - 3/18, Krishna - 4/15)
Continental - 36/0 in 5.4 overs
Result - Game Abandoned due to bad light

Continental returned to its winning ways by beating Falcons CC by 55 runs. Winning the toss, Continental chose to bat first. Dhruv started off well and made a composed 52. Rezwan returning for his first game of this season put in a power packed 28 and was unlucky to get out. There after, CCC kept losing wickets to end up with 158 all out in 37 overs.

With the ball, the contest was over before it even began. Sumit, also playing his first game of this season, picked up 4 wickets within his first 4 overs and left Falcons CC with no chance. Thereafter, other bowlers kept nipping away and Sumit came back to claim his well deserved five-for.

Overall, a good win and most importantly, everyone got a chance to sharpen their skills in different areas.

Next game is against Friends CC at Fair Oaks East on Sunday.

Summary:
Continental - 158 all out in 37 overs (Dhruv - 52)
Falcons - 103 all out in 25 overs (Sumit - 5/27)

Loss vs Stallions CC

6/15/2015

Continental lost its first (and hopefully only) game of the year this Sunday against Stallions CC. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first under blue skies, CCC found itself in a deep hole at 32/8 in no time. It was a combination of good bowling from Stallions CC and some lapses in application and concentration that costed Continental dearly. Thereafter, Krishna and Devansh showed admirable application and fought hard to get CCC to 97 before being bowled out.

With the ball, CCC started off slightly erratically and with not much runs on the board, the task became extremely difficult. But Karandeep bowled a consistent spell and Devansh came back with a hostile spell to keep us in the game. His bowling figures don't do justice to the quality of his effort. Krishna, at the other end, bowled with a lot of heart and fire to keep Continental in the game right until the very end.

Any defeat is always painful but the fact that this unit kept fighting right until the last run was scored was a big plus. With such hunger, this defeat will only act as a catalyst to better performances going forward.

Scores:
Continental - 97 all out in 28.3 overs (Devansh - 25)
Stallions - 99/7 in 24 overs (Naveen Bethi - 47, Karandeep - 3/32)

Continental posted a convincing win over International Cavaliers 1 at Bryn Mawr West today. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Continental piled on the runs to make 281/9 in 40 overs. Dhruv started off the proceedings with a massive hit for 6 striaght over the bowlers head. We lost a few wickets in between but the scoring rate never dipped below 7 RPO. Krishna and Aditya played very important roles to ensure CCC delivered the knockout punch to IC-1. Krishna was very elegant and played brilliant cricketing shots to toy with the bowling and reached 64. Aditya played a breezy innings with some big hitting and good running between the wickets to make 52* in just 38 balls with 2 huge sixers.

With the ball it was carnage right from the beginning and International Cavaliers 1 stood no chance whatsoever. Bowling with the new ball, Karandeep ripped through their heart with a 5/15 ably supported by an excellent spell from Ankit. In the end, Continental won the game by a whooping 225 runs.

We play Stallions at Bryn Mawr West with a chance to consolidate our position at #1 next Sunday.

Summary:
Continental - 281/9 in 40 overs (Dhruv - 54, Krishna - 64, Aditya - 52*)
International Cavaliers 1 - 56/9 (all out) in 21.3 overs (Karandeep - 5/15)

Win against Windies CC

6/1/2015

Continental posted a hard earned but ultimately comprehensive win over Windies CC. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Continental lost the openers quickly. But Prashanth batting exceedingly well and put together a partnership with Srikrishnan in tough batting conditions where the ball stayed low and shot through quickly at times. Thereafter we kept losing quick wickets but the turning point in the innings was when Sandeep Dhull came in to bat and effortlessly changed the momentum of the game by smacking a giant six. He batted brilliantly until he was out for 32. Karandeep played a breezy 15* to ensure Continental posted a par score for the conditions. With the ball, there couldn't have been a better start. Devansh bowled with pace to break the bails off the first ball of the innings and bowled a really quick and brilliant spell of 5 overs to take 2/12. Ankit bowled brilliantly to keep control over the innings and never let Windies take off and Krishna gave nothing away (bowled 4 out of 8 overs as maidens) and finished off Windies.

Summary
Continental 159 all out in 36.2 overs (Srikrishnan - 38, Prashanth - 32, Sandeep D - 32)
Windies 93 all out in 35.3 overs (Krishna - 2/10, Devansh - 2./12)

Continental Starts Off 2015 in Style

Continental posted a comprehensive win over Warriors CC in their opening game for 2015 Season. CCC won the toss and opted to bowl first as there was a rain threat for the game. Continental debuted 3 players in the game and all 3 had standout performances . Krishna turned in an excellent spell and was dynamite on the field. Prashanth looked confident on a very slow and low wicket and was equally effective on the field. He is likely to take over as CCC's voice on the ground with his enthusiasm and energy. Karandeep bowled a magnificent spell to leave Warriors CC in disarray. Devansh and Harsha never let Warriors get off to any kind of a start and Tarun extracted the most bounce off the wicket while bowling some unplayable balls. Aditya could've gotten a wicket out of every ball that he bowled and overall it was a demolition job well done. Dhruv and Ankit put away the bad balls with minimal effort and CCC posted a comprehensive win.

Summary:
Warriors - 60 all out in 28.3 overs (Karandeep - 3/10)
Continental - 63/1 in 8.4 overs (Dhruv - 29*)
